If you were interested in the US relationship with Saddam in the 1980s, there is a good collection of resources on the National Security Archive called “Shaking Hands with Saddam Hussein: The U.S. Tilts towards Iraq, 1980-1984.” It’s similar to the essay you read about Cold War propaganda in the Middle East with an introductory essay and links to the original documents. You can even watch the video of Saddam shaking hands with Donald Rumsfeld.
