Senior columnist of the daily newspapers in Al Madina and Al Bilad, as well as the former editor-in-chief of Asharq Al-Awsat Adbul Rahman Al-Rashed wrote this interesting opinion piece for Asharq Al-Awsat last month, stating that “more than any other American President, (Bush) means what he says”. Apparently, since Bush is the “only President that former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon feared”, this means that Israel knows they need to stay on his good side and will leave it to the Arabs to create trouble because they want to make it look like all they want is peace. Al-Rashed also says that Bush is the only President who has ever had the opportunity to make peace in the Israel-Palestine region, and he has made a step in the right direction by inviting Syria to last weeks conference in Anapolis. All Bush has to do now, says Al-Rashed, is convince Israel that the only possible solution for their problem is “land for peace”. Even though the Arabs hate Bush, in the end Al-Rashed claims that he may succeed in getting them what they want.
