The tiny Gulf nation of Qatar, a small nugget on the Eastern coast of Saudi Arabia, is quickly approaching a population of 1 million. This may seem like a tiny number to us Americans, but it is an impressive feat considering the fact that it was never a particularly desirable country until the world’s oil supply began to dwindle. Each month thousands of immigrant workers from various nations in the area arrive on Qatar’s shores looking to capitalize on it’s natural wealth. The location and situation we see in Qatar raises the question as to how the government will address this oil demand. Nearby Dubai was in a similar situation and has become a hub of buisiness in the Middle East and the whole world. As housing units are developed from the incoming immigrants, it’s quite possible that the government will develope an entirely new infrastructure as well.
